Many people suffer from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), more commonly called "Acid Reflux" or "Heartburn." It is characterized by a burning sensation in the esophagus and the throat. Among remedies for GERD is adjusting the sleeping position to an incline, preferably without body bending.

Several, if not most, adjustable bed manufacturers claim that their products have a position to treat acid reflux by raising the head and chest to get the head above the stomach. Sleep-Ezz has a bed specifically designed for relief of GERD, the Acid Reflux Bed (AR). This bed stays on one plane while it is inclined, raising the head by an up to 8̊ tilt. Lying on the bed the other way, with the feet elevated, is the Trendelenberg position for increasing circulation (heart rest position)
